Singapore, 3 November 2011 – Donors can now give to the “South East Asia Floods Appeal” at more than 2,700 locations, thanks to the partnership of NTUC Fairprice, AXS, DBS/POSB, OCBC and UOB Singapore, with the Singapore Red Cross.

Donors can donate cash in Red Cross tins at NTUC Fairprice outlets and UOB Singapore branches; electronically at AXS stations, DBS/POSB and OCBC ATMs islandwide; or online via DBS, OCBC and UOB internet banking.

“The combined networks of these long-time partners make giving more convenient, and we thank them for supporting our mission of providing crucial disaster relief assistance to the floods survivors in our neighbouring countries. We will continue to mobilise the power of humanity in aid of the vulnerable,” affirmed Mr Christopher Chua, Secretary General of the Singapore Red Cross.

Update on fundraising efforts

Over the last two weeks, the Singapore Red Cross has raised over S$300,000 for the South East Asia Floods Appeal, from individuals and organisations. With the US$100,000 contribution from the Singapore Government, the total proceeds amount to more than S$450,000. The humanitarian organisation aims to raise S$1 million by 30 November 2011, and urges the people of Singapore to respond generously.

Update on relief efforts

The Singapore Red Cross’ contribution of S$200,000 - its first tranche of emergency relief to Thailand and Cambodia – has gone towards the purchase and distribution of food, relief kits and essential supplies, to the people affected by the floods. It recently followed with a second tranche of aid to Cambodia, comprising more essential supplies like blankets, water containers, and bottled water.

The Singapore Red Cross, in partnership with Temasek Holdings, the Asia investment company, and Temasek Foundation, has also donated 4,000 water filtration units, to the Cambodian Red Cross and Thai Red Cross, for immediate use by the flood survivors.

The Singapore Red Cross is working closely with its sister national societies in Cambodia, Laos, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam on further relief and recovery aid to address the specific needs of those affected by the severe flooding.

The SRC is appealing for monetary donations. All donations made to the “South East Asia Floods Appeal” will be earmarked specifically for relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts to help survivors of the disasters.
